My friend, Andrea

andreakids.jpg

I met my friend, Andrea, in 1997 when I was a sophomore at ECU.  She and her husband, Adam have an amazing story.  This is us at her college graduation in Denver in May of 2002.  At that time, she had 1 child and I had 1 child.  We now both have 2 children and guess what?  She just found out she’s pregnant with TWINS!!!  Wow!  We’ve been through so much together these past 10 years, but I never could have dreamed I would get to experience this with her!  Andrea, now I’m really wishing we lived 3 hours apart again, rather than across the country!

Gage is inspired!

img_0916.jpg

As many of you know, Gage loves to make things out of sticks. So, when we were out yesterday and saw this furniture made of sticks, he was so excited. I can totally see him doing something like this.

When I pointed these prices out to him, he said, “Well, Mom, that’s not really all that much considering how much work goes into them.”  Out of the mouth of a true artist!  And, I think he’s right.

Mono or just the 2’s?

img_0909.jpgimg_0910.jpg

We were at a library book sale and a nice lady working there helped open Shea’s cereal bar and then handed it to him with the wrapper still around it. He must have immediately decided that this was the way he wanted it to stay b/c as soon as I tried to take the wrapper off and give it to him without it, he threw a fit. This is what transpired in the car when the cereal bar fell out of the wrapper. He was determined to get it back in after it fell out, and for the next 15 minutes home, this is what we (Gage and I) had to deal with. His fever has been gone for the past 3 days (which means he’s not contagious), but he’s been throwing fits like this one constantly! So, is it mono or the 2’s hitting? I guess we’ll know in a week or so! It does seem that the mono is quickly passing, as the doctor told us it would. Now, he’s just taking really long naps and sleeping later in the mornings, which is actually pretty nice.

BEST free-store find ever!

img_0902.jpg

We have  free-store here on campus.  Yes, I said “free”!  People donate things and then you just go pick out what you want!  Wednesday was our lucky day!  Shea loves the kitchen, Gage found some “hiking boots” on his own, and notice the other pair of shoes there.  Size 41 birks, brand new!!!!!!  Jared is thrilled and so am I!  These are the only kinds of shoes he wears, so this just saved us ALOT of money!

Community…….what does that look like?

I’m not going to say much about this right now, because I’m tired and am not sure what I want to say.  I know that the concept of community has been on my mind for quite a while now, and I’ve found myself getting angry when I see community lived out in a fake way.  I want to talk more about it, and plan on doing that soon.  It seems to be the theme of my life lately, and is becoming more and more a passion of mine…….to figure out what community is supposed to look like and live that out in my own life.  More later!

MONO!

Well, Shea had his first experience having blood taken from his arm today.  I called the doctor this morning, because it occured to me that Shea has been sick with a fever 3 times in the past 4 weeks.  This is just not normal, and I knew it wasn’t just because he is cutting his eye teeth.  So, the nurse ran his situation by the doctor, and she called us back to say that we needed to take him into the outpatient lab at the hospital to have a blood test done.  Needless to say, we were a little stressed this morning at hearing that.  So, the news of mono is actually a relief at this point.  Now we’ve just got to get him past this with us all sane!  He’s pretty miserable.  It seems that his main symptom is a really sore throat.  He keeps grabbing at it and crying.  We’ll keep you posted!

Where did my baby go?

img_0802.jpg

He’s so grown up now! I’ve discovered that Color Wonder markers are the best thing! I’m deciding to ignore the fact that he has already bitten the tip off of one of them. This week, he began saying “no”. It’s cute right now, but we know it won’t stay that way for long. And, since this pic was taken, his curls in the back have been cut off.

Busy week!

We’ve had lots going on around here this week.  The biggest thing being that we’ve decided to change churches.  We will be plugging in at Heritage, PCA and we’re really excited about it.  It was a stressful week, b/c we don’t take the decision to change churches lightly.  But, we really believe that Heritage is going to be the best fit for our family in all aspects during our time here at seminary.  The pastor and his wife (Sean and Nikki) are our age and really have a heart for seminary students.  So, we’re excited about developing a relationship with them, where we can see first-hand the ups and downs of ministry.  And, I’m especially excited to develop a close friendship with our pastor’s wife.  I’ve never had an opportunity like this, and I think it is going to be a great experience.  We have a lot in common and are already turning out to be great friends.  (Hi, Nikki!)  The other big decision this week was deciding whether or not to move off campus.  After a breakdown on my part and then slowly coming around to listen to my husband’s wisdom, I’ve been able to understand, and agree that staying is the best decision.  It’s not easy homeschooling a very active kid when you live on campus.  But, the benefits we receive from living here far outweigh the benefits of moving off campus, so we’re going to stick it out.  I’m going to be working on coming up with a plan to make it easier on us.  So, I’ll let you know how that goes and what plan I end up coming up with.  More than likely, I’ll be working on figuring it our for at least another six months!  I’ll probably figure it out just as it’s time to leave!
