8 Random Facts

I’ve been tagged by Nikki to do this. Thanks, Nikki! I am really not a chain-letter type person, but I’m doing it. You should be really proud, Nikki!

So, first, here are the rules:

1. I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.

2. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.

3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.

4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.

5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

And, now here are those 8 random facts I know you’re all dying to hear:

1. I CANNOT go through my day without a Coke with my lunch. It’s really an obsession. If I know that I’m going to be going somewhere for lunch, I have to make sure they will have Coke (or Pepsi will do) and if I’m not sure, I’ll bring a back-up can. I get jittery and everything if it appears I will not get my Coke.

2. I went on a mission trip for 2 months to Pakistan when I was pregnant with Gage. While I was there, I had my nose pierced at the “bazaar” (outdoor shopping place). The guy pulled out a set of metal rings and picked the one that was the right gauge. He then cut a piece off and proceeded to sharpen it. After sharpening the metal, he was ready to pierce my nose, and I requested that he clean it with alcohol first. I was REALLY stupid! I thought I was being smart, though, because I waited until the end of the trip to have it done, in case it got infected.

3. I am a typical “middle child” peacemaker. I can’t stand to feel like there is any conflict and if there is, I want to fix it.

4. When I am angry, my mouth can be pretty foul. I mean, you know, I don’t cuss in public or anything, or in front of my kids. I think maybe I should be a little more convicted of this, though.

5. My husband teaches our son some really stupid things. The latest……he taught him how to burn things with a magnifying glass. We’re probably going to end up being kicked out of on-campus living here at seminary now that I confessed that!

6. When I was in the 1st grade, my Mom gave me a really BAD home perm. I was really ugly. So, as soon as “Napolean Dynamite” came out, my sister and friend, Mandy began calling me Napolean.

7. Speaking of Mandy, I have 3 best friends who have followed me through childhood into adulthood and parenthood. One of them, Mandy, dates back to pre-school, Carla, first grade, and Abbey, 4th grade. I was maid/matron of honor in 2 of the 3 weddings, and one of them didn’t have a wedding, but I would have been if she had. What’s crazy about it is that I have always been friends with them separately. They all 3 know each other, but have never been close friends.

8. I LOVE to snow ski and even though I grew up at the beach I like the mountains much more. I think the most care-free I have ever felt is when I am snow skiing. I haven’t been in a long time and I would love to live where I could go on a regular basis. Oh, yeah, I have kids! Maybe one day…….

Now I’m supposed to tag 8, but I’ve got a little problem because I can’t think of 8 people who haven’t already been tagged by Nikki.  So, here’s what I’ve got:

Megan

Emily (my sis)

Sorry, that’s all I’ve got!

Lyra,
I loved your 8 they were GREAT! lol I am with you I love a coke too!!! And Patrick and I took skiiing in college as a course. It was fun but I cannot ski anymore. (I blew out my knees) The mission trip thing is sooooo awesome, I totally admire that. I want to go to Africa someday.

I didn’t know you liked to ski?! Oh and we may want to clarify that I am not the childhood Mandy you speak of. I have only had the pleasure of knowing you…maybe 10 ? years. and don’t forget the best thing Jared has taught Gage…”ya mama” jokes. Can’t wait to see you live and in color in a few weeks! love you!

What? You were in first grade when Napoleon Dynamite came out? You act so much older! :)
I’ll play eventually. I’ve been tagged for this before but I’m very very meme lazy. It always takes a double-tag for me to play and sometimes even a triple. :) This is why I don’t get tagged much!

4 Nikki { 06.07.07 at 3:55 am }

I am sorry, but no. Pepsi will never do.

5 lyra { 06.07.07 at 5:15 am }

Mandy- Yes, I do need to clarify that you are not the same Mandy that I’ve been friends with since preschool. But, isn’t it crazy to realize we’ve known each other for 10 years now!

Megan- I TOTALLY understand your aversion to memes. Nikki roped me in, but I won’t be so easily roped the next time! And, I know, the way I worded it made it sound like I was in first grade when the movie Napolean Dynamite came out. My sister and friend Mandy nicknamed me this as soon as the movie was released because it reminded them of what I looked like in the first grade. Lets you know what a lasting impression that home perm left on everyone. Believe me, that one will follow me for life. They’re not ever gonna let me forget it!

Nikki- Pepsi has to do when you’re addicted and there’s no other choice! I’m telling you, it’s an addiction! However, Coke is most definitely preferred.

6 Mandy { 06.07.07 at 4:23 pm }

But LYRA! Pepsi was the taste born in the Carolinas!!

7 lyra { 06.07.07 at 5:32 pm }

I know, Mandy. I’m such a traitor! Hate to say it, but the taste born in the Carolinas is NOT the best!

8 Mandy { 06.07.07 at 5:45 pm }

yes, I guess I agree.

9 Pat { 06.07.07 at 6:41 pm }

Lyra-
I never realized how much we have in common.
I am the typical middle child and HATE conflict as well and (except when it comes to board games of course).
Coke is The King! (I just sent Rich Albert over to the mall to go get me one)
I teach our kids stupid things
Skiing is one of my absolute favorite thing to do
Pat

That’s awesome! We’ve got to get together with you guys! We’re definitely hanging out 4th of July, so I’m looking forward to that. And, you guys will get to meet our friend, Mandy, who is already making plans with your wife to go up in the arch.

11 Beth Lloyd Lloyds 5 { 06.07.07 at 11:30 pm }

As I said in one of our comment boxes….I think we should all go up in the Arch together and do that. If you want to! And maybe we can all sing…”Shiny Happy People” Love, Beth

12 Mandy { 06.07.07 at 11:38 pm }

Shiny happy people! sweet

13 lyra { 06.07.07 at 11:55 pm }

Sounds fun! We went with my parents when they visited last October. The only downfall is that it’s kind of expensive I remember right. But, it’s definitely something you need to do if you’ve never been. Isn’t it funny how it seems that the people in a town who haven’t done the main attractions are always the natives? Shows that you’re a true St. Louisan! Is that even a word?

14 Beth Lloyd Lloyds 5 { 06.08.07 at 2:29 am }

Oh Okay you all stay down and Mandy and I can go up! Yeah! And we will wave to you while you spell words out by lying down on the ground! NO curse words though!

15 lyra { 06.08.07 at 2:47 am }

Jared says we won’t have to worry about the curse words as long as Mandy is going up!

16 Sean { 06.08.07 at 3:15 am }

I wanna play too!! Please, Shaylea and I want to go up into the archie!
And I LOVE to Ski. It sounds as if I hear an HPC couples skiing trip (for Jesus of course) in the works!

17 lyra { 06.08.07 at 3:22 am }

I would LOVE to go on a ski trip! I just wish it wasn’t so expensive! I actually have not been since I was pregnant with Gage in ‘99. I know, it probably wasn’t the best idea to ski, but it was the first trimester and I was in Colorado. I couldn’t pass it up. And, I didn’t fall!

18 Nikki { 06.08.07 at 4:00 am }

Can we go to Hawaii for Jesus?

19 Beth Lloyd Lloyds 5 { 06.08.07 at 4:56 am }

Mission Trip to Hawaii!!! Yes!! I guess were just going to have to make due with the arch at this point….and maybe the old court house. LOL We will have to look up and see if they are having a concert night down by the Arch. Those are so much fun. Love ya!

20 Mandy { 06.08.07 at 12:42 pm }

OK, I cannot believe JARED is ragging ME for cursing.
Hey pot- yeah, um, you’re black. - your friend, kettle

And I am all about going to the arch. or Hawaii. or both.
Can I join in the Heritage festivities even though I live like 14 hours away?

21 Mandy { 06.08.07 at 1:39 pm }

oh and Sean…why does the ski trip have to be “couples”??!!

Way to exclude the single people!

22 Pat { 06.08.07 at 3:00 pm }

I always hear of these giant ships that “cruise” from island to island in Hawaii and hold thousands of people. It really seems to me that many of these people are in serious need of learning about Jesus. I mean thousands of people… what better mission field than that!! hmm… do you think we could be sponsored for a trip like this.

23 Sean { 06.08.07 at 3:52 pm }

Maybe– but of course, the real issue is that Nikki and I are going to Aruba in Dec. and we are pretty certain that God is going to lay on our hearts that we need to plant a PCA church in Aruba! They definitely need Jesus!

24 lyra { 06.08.07 at 4:20 pm }

Beth- concert at the arch sounds awesome! And, Mandy, of course you can join us folks at Heritage anytime! You’re family.

25 Beth Lloyd Lloyds 5 { 06.08.07 at 10:17 pm }

Yeah- Everyone one is Welcome. However, Arch night is all about our date Mandy! LOL July 6 th there is going to be a FREE concert at the arch!

26 Mandy { 06.08.07 at 10:48 pm }

Awww! Thanks Beth!
I am all about going on a sweet date!

27 Nikki { 06.09.07 at 4:33 am }

Mandy is mine!

28 lyra { 06.09.07 at 5:14 am }

She’s mine first!

29 Mandy { 06.09.07 at 11:31 pm }

Awww. I feel so wanted!
No worries. There is plenty of me to go around. I love my ladies :)
