“Clean Diaper, Please”

I have to share with you all the new development in Shea.  For the past few days, he has informed me that he has a poopy diaper by walking up to me and holding out a finger.  A finger which he has stuck into his diaper and smeared with poop.  LOVELY!  It’s a great way to start the day.  Now, I do believe that this warrants a good pop on the leg.  Maybe even an exposed butt.  However, it’s a little tricky because he’s definitely not ready for a delayed “spanking”, which would occur after cleaning the poop off of his finger, and when all you can think about is “what have your fingers touched before showing me this”, it’s just not the time to give him a good pop.  So, all you veteran moms out there…………any suggestions?

Yeah, while it’s covered in poop?! And, I thought you were busy at work, anyway!

hilarious. Thanks Lyra. I was in one of those want-a-baby-so-bad-you-cry-when-you-see-one phases. This helps :)

We use wooden mixing spoons, for our “rod” It helps in those situations, just don’t do any baking with those! lol

I second the wooden spoon! Ours has a very long, sturdy handle… mwwwahhhhahhah.

Third ones a charm…I think you’ve got your answer, sis! Wooden spoon it is…maybe one good one on the hand that had poop on it and then one at the top of his cheeks, where the poop isnt touching…then clean that sucker up. Have fun!!! You and your poopy boys!

my boys are both just like me…. so we better stock up on spoons. Mom broke a few on my tight rear. (there was a time…)

Hi, Lyra. Well, I don’t usually post on blogs (except Beth’s), but here I go…It sounds like he does his “business” about the same time every morning. Could you sit him on the potty when he gets up and see if he’ll go there? When we trained Daniel we had tinkle toys (yeah…I know). Just cheap stuff in a jar on the potty. When he went on the potty he got to choose a toy or sticker or whatever. Sounds like Shea knows he doesn’t want to be in a poopy diaper and has found a way to get you to change it asap! Maybe he’s ready. (Karen from Heritage, btw)

I’m so glad you decided to post to my blog, Karen! And, thanks for the advice. I think you’re right. He is probably just trying to get me to change his diaper quickly. And, we actually did just buy him a potty chair because he kept asking to “pee” in the toilet and we felt like he might be ready. So, looks like we’re going to be officially potty-training! And, thanks, everyone, for the reminder of the wooden spoon! Yes, we, too have a wooden spoon and if the poop on the finger happens again, I think I’ll be using it! mwwwahhhhahhah! (that was for Nikki)

Oh, and Mandy, I’m sure my boys will remind you while you are here of how those cute, gurgling babies grow up and throw tantrums and talk your ear off. But, you’ll be back to wanting a baby after a month or two. Believe me, it even happens to us moms who have the reminder in front of us everyday! It’s just the way God made us.

Hi! I”m tagging you! See my post today.

Well, he almost pulled that trick on me yesterday! I smelled something and he had his precious smile — a wide wide– and I asked him if he had gone potty. He took that finger and started going down the diaper and I grabbed him– just in time– to change it. He is a mess– so precious!

Caroline! I’m so happy you’re at my blog! I didn’t even know you knew about it! I should have warned you about his latest potty behavior before leaving him with you. I’m sooooo glad you caught it before it happened! Could have been messy!

Wow! Maybe I should talk more about Noah and Ellie’s poop at my blog sight to boost my comments! LOL

14 lyra { 06.06.07 at 7:15 pm }

I know, Beth! Who knew?! LOL!

No, what you do is, you 1)ask for people’s advice (hence, the comments ’cause people LOVE to give advice) or 2)streak, emotionally speaking, or course or 3)start posting random funny videos and people will just start saying “COWBELL” and “I”M BRIAN FELLOW” and crap like that.

16 mandy { 06.06.07 at 7:50 pm }

Yeah right. We can talk about crap on fingers, emotional streaking, snl or just random stuff…everyone still responds. It’s mesmerizing.

That’s why you need to keep on blogging, Mandy!

That is too funny! Jordan never did that, thank goodness. I would try sitting him on the potty. It seems like he is showing signs of readiness. We just went through the potty training stage with Jordan. I have an easy way (it worked for Jordan) to potty-train if you are interested.

19 lyra { 06.07.07 at 6:00 pm }

Hey, Aaren! I’m so glad to hear from you! YES!!! I am interested in any advice on this topic! It’s been a while since I’ve had to do this, and Gage was almost 3 when I trained him, so Shea is much younger. I’ve been letting him sit on the potty, but he doesn’t do anything. And, then 5 minutes later, he’ll go in his diaper. Or, end up peeing on the couch because he’s wearing training pants and they obviously leak!

I used a paint stirrer instead of a wooden spoon. That way I could still use my spoons to cook. I don’t know if they still give those away with cans of paint anymore. (Keenan trained late and he set a date with us when he would quit.) Every child is UNIQUE! I agree with Karen. I would try the potty chair with small rewards. I’m always for positive reinforcement.

21 lyra { 06.08.07 at 2:01 am }

Hey, Liz! Yes, we’ve used the paint sticks, too. We think Gage started hiding them at some point back when we were using them on him all the time. So funny! I’m definitely going to do the reward thing with training him. But, I think I’m going to wait another week until we’re at Hope and Wes’s for the summer where we will have a yard. That way, I can let him run around without a diaper on outside and just bring his little potty chair out there with us. I’m sure the neighbors will love it! LOL

We’re excited, too. We’ll be there all summer while Hope and Wes are gone. Such a blessing! The boys are going to love it! We’ll definitely have to get together.
