Rock Collection

Can you think of a better place to store a rock collection? This potty chair has become Shea’s lifeline. He carries it around the house, using it as a stool to reach EVERYTHING. I guess he figured it could double as rock storage!

Resurrection Day
We made resurrection cookies last night and it was so neat for us to see how much more Shea understands this year. We did this for the first time last year, and I decided then that I wanted it to be a family tradition. I (we) are so bad at doing anything regularly, so as a result, we have established very few family traditions. But, this is one that I think will stick with us. The boys loved it, and this morning, we came into the kitchen and took the cookies out of the “tomb”. They ate their resurrection cookies as I read to them about the day Jesus’ disciples discovered he was no longer in the tomb. It was one of those precious moments that just can’t be put into words, so I’ll stop here.
We went to church and Shea was telling everyone that we took the cookies out of the tomb. He was so excited about it!

Gage drew this during church today. He was copying a banner hanging behind our pastor on the window.
The day began and ended with snow. A snowy Easter Sunday!

Nostalgia in the Midst of Chaos…..
Today (well, actually this week) has just been one of those days. You know, the kind of day that you realize you have a $38 library fine, try to pay it, and are told you can only pay with cash or check. And, that was after you tracked all the overdue books down, loaded them in the car, unloaded them, carefully balancing the books on top of the stroller your 2 year old rides in while whining for a rock he left in the car and also telling you he needs to go pee. The kind of day when you fold a whole pile of laundry, only to come back into the room to see it all toppled
over onto the floor. Well, I’m happy to report that in the middle of all this chaos, 2 songs played on the radio, taking me back to the early 90’s. Ahhh, those were the days. No care in the world…………………………other than how to get my bangs to stand up without burning myself with the curling iron. Oh, and how to keep my jeans tightly rolled at the bottom with my “slouch” socks perfectly “slouched”. Sit back and enjoy this cheap therapy! (those of you who are old enough to remember!)

Yep, that’s me!
I took this personality test today online just for fun. And, as usual, I came out as an INFP. I have always loved figuring out personality types. One of my favorite classes in college was a class on personalities. So, being here at Covenant is great because the Myer’s Briggs personality scale is ingrained in the language. It is not uncommon to quickly share your personality type with someone in a passing conversation. I’ve been noticing a trend in faithful bloggers lately. They are usually J’s. This would explain why I go for days at a time without writing. The J’s seem to have it all together and share the breakfasts they are cooking for their families, the rooms they are organizing, and checklists for the week. Not me. I just can’t do it. And, that’s okay. I will say that my friend, Emily is a total J, and she has inspired me over the past year to do many Jish things. Or at least desire to do Jish things. But, I’ve come to terms with the fact that I can never be a J.

INFPs are introspective, private, creative and highly idealistic individuals that have a constant desire to be on a meaningful path. They are driven by their values and seek peace. Empathetic and compassionate, they want to help others and humanity as a whole. INFPs are imaginitive, artistic and often have a talent for language and writing. They can also be described as easygoing, selfless, guarded, adaptable, patient and loyal.
So what are you? Take the test and let me know!

Next Stop in NC……..Greenville
We stopped off in Greenville (this is where we both went to college and spent the first 2 years of our marriage) for a very brief visit. We stayed at Elizabeth and Radez’ house and got to meet their new baby boy, Logan. It was so great to catch up with them. They’re the kind of friends you just pick back up with where you left off. The next day was Sunday, so we went to church with them and were able to see all of our old friends. Some of them even went out to eat lunch with us after church. We were the only ones out of our friends who had kids when we moved, and now everyone has at least one child! It was so neat to see them all as parents now. I wish I had a picture of everyone, but I wasn’t good about breaking my camera out. I was too busy talking!

Awww….aren’t they cute?!
Next, we stopped off in Rocky Mount to visit Jared’s best friend, Alex and his family. When we moved to IL in 2004, Alex was single. Now, he is married with two kids! And, we are so happy for him! He and Kelly could not be more perfect for one another.

Alex has made it a tradition to treat us to Chuckee Cheese when we are in town. Because we went the last time we visited, Gage just assumed that this was a normal event for them. He said, “Mom, Alex must be rich!”

A Sunny Room
Isn’t it amazing how the littlest things in life can make such a difference? I came into Jared’s office this afternoon, in an attempt to get away from my 8 year old who was moaning and groaning with each math problem he attempted to solve. And, to my surprise, I found my new favorite place to sit in the afternoons. Sunlight is pouring through the window and I feel better already.

No, this is not Jared’s office, but wouldn’t it be nice?! I just googled a sunny room, and this is what I came up with. Couches beside sunny windows are one of my favorite things.
