The Beauty and Horror of Spandex

A few days ago, I chose to wear some spandex yoga pants around the house for the day.  I wasn’t going anywhere, and they were really comfortable.  When I’m at home, comfort is of utmost importance.

The first hour I had the pants on, I thought to myself, “This is great motivation to get in shape.  I  need a reminder to start Weight Watchers, and this is doing it for me.”  These were my thoughts for the first hour or two that I wore the pants, every time I passed a mirror.  Motivation is a good thing, so I kept them on.  I even began writing a blog post in my head entitled, “The Beauty of Spandex”.

Later that day, I found myself to be in a really foul mood, and I wasn’t sure why.  Jared wanted to know why, too, so we started talking about it.  It didn’t take me long to realize that it was the freaking pants.  They were making me feel like crap about myself.  I  had gone from feeling motivated to do something about my flab to absolutely despising the fact that I looked horrible in the pants.  The blog post in my head quickly changed to “The Horror of Spandex”.

It’s great to be motivated every now and then, and the spandex did it for a brief period of time.  However, I’m not sure the beauty of being motivated outweighed the horror I felt every time I passed a mirror.

Plans for next week:  Hit the YMCA for some cardio pilates and swimming.  Oh, and Weight Watchers will once again be entering my life!

I may even start blogging over here again.

Lyra, your stories crack me up! As soon as I read the title I knew it was going to make me laugh. I completely know where you’re coming from and there are some materials that should just be ban from the earth! I hope your day ended on a good note. ;)

Hilarious!! Spandex is not something I wear very often! ha! I love boyfriend sweats! They are the best! However, I am glad you are motivated!

Lyra, the rule around our house is that Spandex is a privilege, not a right, and neither Megan nor I have it.

I guess I need to clarify that the pants were a cotton/spandex blend. However, I agree, Craig! If there is any bit of spandex involved in the fabric, it should be considered a privilege to wear. One that I absolutely do not deserve right now!

And, Beth, my favorite pants at the moment are capri sweatpants. I love them!

First of all Lyra…WHY do you even own a pair of Spandex Pants? Are we talking the biking shorts kind that are hot pink and shiney…cuz I still have a pair from back in the day..if you want them. Just kidding…but I really do have some.
Anyway, this is a funny story…sounds like something I would do. I got mad at my scales and jumped on them until the springs shot…but still will not throw them away. I weighed on them last night…and then took 4 laxatives and 5 water pills..I think I have officially lost 5 pounds today..and it ain’t from Pilates…GOTTA RUN…LITERALLY!

Mandy, you are so crazy! NO, they’re NOT the kind you’re thinking of. Although, I got a good laugh out of remembering the kind you’re talking about! They are a cotton/spandex blend, but regardless, they’re too tight for this body!
